[2026 update] Comparing documentation quality across the directory, tabulated

post #2 is right about the mechanism and I think understates the practical bit. Structured report format: compound, lot, independent testing service, method as reported, result, and the certificate figure for the same lot. One lot is one lot. It becomes a pattern at three or four, and it becomes a disputed record…

On the subject in the title: Comparing documentation quality across the directory, tabulated Working notes rather than a conclusion.

I would like to talk about documentation quality as a signal, separately from product quality.

Across the certificates I have collected, the variation in what is disclosed is much larger than the variation in the purity figures. Some name the analytical procedure; some give a number and a signature.

My hypothesis is that disclosure correlates with process control, and I would like to know whether the people who audit paperwork for a living think that is naive.

Blind submission is worth the effort: have someone else relabel the sample so neither you nor the laboratory knows which supplier it came from until the result is back. Blind results change minds; self-selected results do not.

Structured report format: compound, lot, independent testing service, method as reported, result, and the certificate figure for the same lot. One lot is one lot. It becomes a pattern at three or four, and it becomes a disputed record when asked and not explained.

Temporal patterns: if results from a supplier were good two years ago but have deteriorated recently, that is information. If they have been consistent over years, that is also information.
