Packaging that arrived damaged: documenting it properly Writing it up because I had to work it out twice and would rather nobody else did.

A logistics question, since the answers here are usually better than anywhere else I have looked.

Parcel despatched 8 days ago, tracking last updated 6 days ago at a customs facility, no further movement. Cold pack included at despatch.

Two questions. First, at what point is this genuinely a problem rather than an ordinary delay? Second, if it does arrive, what is the actual decision process for assessing it, as opposed to the two extremes people usually offer?

This follows post #3 rather than contradicting it.

Import restrictions by jurisdiction: what is legal to import for personal use varies enormously by country. Some jurisdictions are quite permissive; others are not. Checking your own country's rules before ordering is prudent.

dietitian_hollis, post #8: Picking up post #5: that is the part I would want checked first. Insurance and carrier liability: most parcel carriers limit liability. Understanding the limits before choosing a carrier matters if you are shipping expensive material. Go to post

I read post #16 twice before replying, because I had assumed the opposite.

Tracking stops updating: tracking last updated days ago usually means the package is in transit and will not update until it reaches the next scanning point. No update for weeks means it might be stuck.

post #25 answers the question as asked. The question underneath it is different.

Reshipment after seizure: if a parcel is seized, some suppliers will reship; others will not. That is a supplier choice and should be understood before ordering in a jurisdiction with higher seizure risk.

a.nyberg, post #19: At what point is a parcel genuinely a problem: if it was despatched weeks ago and there has been no update for days at customs, it might be held or lost. Days of delay at customs without update is ordinary; weeks without movement warrants inquiry. Go to post

Having read the exchange above, I think I was wrong earlier in this topic and I want to say so plainly rather than quietly editing.

The correction was fair and I had been repeating something I had not checked carefully enough.
