Second pass at: Sodium, potassium and magnesium when intake drops Writing it up because I had to work it out twice and would rather nobody else did.

Longitudinal report with the method stated, because a number without a method is not a measurement.

Same scale, same time of day, same conditions, 26 weeks. I have also recorded protein intake and resistance-training sessions, both self-reported and both therefore optimistic.

The reason I am posting is a pattern in the middle of the series that I cannot explain and that I suspect is measurement rather than signal.

Worth separating two things that the opening post runs together.

Potassium: similar to sodium; losing weight involves some potassium loss. Bananas, sweet potatoes, and other potassium-rich foods help. Severe depletion is rare but symptomatic (weakness, palpitations).

Water intoxication: drinking excessive water (more than a few liters per day for extended time) without electrolyte replacement can cause hyponatremia. This is rare but serious. Balance fluid with electrolytes.

Magnesium: deficiency during weight loss is common and symptoms (fatigue, muscle cramps) are nonspecific. Supplementation is inexpensive and low-risk if needed.

This follows post #76 rather than contradicting it.

Coming back to post #79, because the follow-up matters more than the original answer.

Orthostatic symptoms: dizziness on standing after lying down can indicate dehydration or electrolyte depletion. Increasing fluids, salt, and potassium usually resolves it.

Constipation and hydration: dehydration makes constipation worse. Increasing fluid intake is the first intervention for constipation alongside other measures.

Fluid intake: baseline needs increase with gastrointestinal effects and exercise. Thirst is not a reliable guide during appetite suppression. Drinking regularly (not just when thirsty) is prudent.

a.adeyemi, post #24: Picking up post #21: that is the part I would want checked first. Potassium: similar to sodium; losing weight involves some potassium loss. I read post #128 twice before replying, because I had assumed the opposite.

Magnesium: deficiency during weight loss is common and symptoms (fatigue, muscle cramps) are nonspecific. Supplementation is inexpensive and low-risk if needed.
